Learn more about working in poor service area's, to ensure you aren't losing data

When you log in to IronSight, your sessions will last indefinitely, meaning you do not need to log out - ever.

Staying logged in is recommended for optimal experience for mobile app users.

Starting your Shift

Open IronSight and go on duty while you have good service, load up majority of your jobs and then minimize the app to retain all the info you just loaded.

*minimize the app by clicking home, or just locking your phone.   Do not swipe up or close out of the app completely, or you'll need to reload job data to see them again.

Completing Jobs and Forms

When you've properly loaded up all jobs, and minimized the app you can work through your list through the day, and IronSight automatically syncs up through the day as you enter and exit service area's.   Sometimes it's instant, and other times it can take a little while if you're nowhere near decent service.

Updating and completing jobs in bad service area's:

If you're on the job and exit service area's, IronSight  will cache (store) what you do locally on your phone until it can detect enough service to sync it up with the cloud database to update Dispatch Hub with your details.

Occasionally, your phone will show a job as complete, and the desktop app will not match that - in those cases, this is likely what has occurred.

Good news:

Changes you make are stored in your mobile device's memory until you re-enter service and then should automatically sync - however:
    • These changes can be lost if you were to do any of these things:
      • Turn off your phone
      • Force Close/Kill the app
      • Run out of battery
    • See below for details on how to attempt to re-sync up with the cloud

When updates are pending:

When you see the banner below either on a job, or on the Jobs screen:

  • Click View and it should show a list of all jobs with updates pending:

  • Click “Try Now” to force the app to try syncing updates.
  • Wait until all updates are complete before closing the app.

Initial log in to load Data:

Upon log in, the system will attempt to load all of the following data which is needed to complete or request jobs:

  • Locations, location types, location colors
  • Companies, users, resource types, tasks, inventories & units
  • Forms & form submissions
  • Jobs
  • Divisions, cost centers, tags, chats
  • Map center point

If Jobs or Form Submissions fail to load, you will see a banner stating "tried to load" and the system will automatically try again when you move to better service.

If anything else on the above list fails to load, the system will try again automatically when service is better but you won't know it has happened.  You would end up seeing blanks or "unknown" where data should be:

  • Empty dropdown fields when trying to create new jobs or fill out forms
  • Jobs/Forms with information that says "unknown location/division/resource/user/resource type and so on
  • If you see those things, don't log out, try to find better service.

Logging Out

When you log out, all data is erased from your device memory, and will need to be reloaded when you log back in next time.

Make sure you only log out when you won't need to access IronSight again for a while.

Here are some do's and don'ts when you have bad service:

Do's

Dont's
  • Do log in and go on duty while in good service
    • All data will be loaded and stored in temporary memory until you log out again
  • Do proceed with completing the job and adding details even when outside service area's.
    • The system will save your changes to temporary memory, and upload them to IronSight when you enter service again later.
  • Do minimize the app when you aren't looking at it
  • Don't kill the app when you are out of service
  • Don't log out or close the app.
    • Doing so will clear all the memory from your device and your job updates may not save.
  • Don't try to log in while outside service area's
    • The data you need will fail to load

Not sure if you have strong internet service?

Having some cell service for texting or calling does not mean you have the internet needed to load IronSight's data.

Here's how you can check if you have strong service:

  • Open an internet browser and try to load a website you’ve never loaded before (common sites you visit could still load for you due to system memory/cache
  • If it loads, IronSight should load all data too
  • If it does not load, you will need to find better service before you can log back in to IronSight and download all data.
